Is there a cure?
More than ever I see doctors growing pessimistic and apathetic about their practices. They are waiting for the bogeyman – socialism, Darwinism or some unrelenting evil force to turn them into serving as underpaid lackeys. That does not sound like a cure to me.
I know he has become something of a joke, but Tony Robbins has something to teach here. Robbins tells of working with a professional baseball player in a slump. He asked the beleaguered ballplayer to rate his hitting right now on a 1-10 scale. Our slugger says about a 6.
Next Robbins asks him where his hitting has to be to hit a 100 mph fastball. Slugger says a high 9 or a 10. Anything less and he knows he’ll strike out. Finally Robbins asks the ballplayer the key question:
What were you doing, how where you feeling and what were you thinking about the last time you were at a high 9 or a 10? The key is to get yourself to a 10 and then tackle the problem. A level 5 or 6 brain cannot take on a level 10 problem and win.
